Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersDelivered by a Melbourne florist Monday to Saturday to Wollert, Epping and Mernda. Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Melbourne time, for same-day delivery.
Wollert is one of the fastest-changing places in Victoria. A generation ago it was farmland and a brickworks 26 km north of Melbourne's CBD; at the 2021 census it had 24,407 residents, and the five primary schools and two secondary colleges that have opened since 2018 show how quickly the streets are filling. The suburb sits at about 100 metres in the City of Whittlesea, 6 km north of Epping, with Craigieburn to the west, Mernda and South Morang to the east and Donnybrook and Woodstock beyond the paddocks to the north. The name is a Woiwurrung word meaning where possums abound, and until the 1960s this was dairy country supplying Melbourne with milk; Brickworks Limited, the country's biggest brickmaker, still runs a plant here. A Melbourne florist makes up your bouquet and delivers it to the door.
Delivery covers the whole 1,434-hectare precinct between Craigieburn Road East and Summerhill Road, plus Epping, Epping North, Mernda, South Morang, Craigieburn and Donnybrook. Because streets are still being built, maps lag and some addresses are not yet in navigation systems: always give the recipient's mobile number, and for a townhouse or apartment the unit number and any gate code. The new schools, including Edgars Creek Secondary College (opened 2018), Wollert Secondary College (2023) and the Wollert, Edgars Creek, Barrawang, Wirrigirri and Carlo Acutis primary schools, can take a delivery for a staff member at the front office during school hours.
Same-day delivery runs Monday to Saturday for orders placed before 2pm on weekdays or 10am on Saturday, Melbourne time. Sunday is the one day without deliveries. Victoria is on daylight saving from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, so a sender in Brisbane has less time in summer: 2pm in Wollert is 1pm in Brisbane. From Adelaide the cut-off is 1.30pm all year, from Perth 11am in summer and noon in winter. Later orders go out the next working day or on the date you choose.
The Northern Hospital at 185 Cooper Street, Epping 3076, opened in 1998 next to Pacific Epping and is the public hospital for Wollert, with around 400 beds. Ring the ward before ordering: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and the maternity unit prefers a small arrangement for the bedside. Quote the patient's full name and the ward when you order. If the patient is close to discharge, send to the home in Wollert instead, where the flowers will be enjoyed for longer.
Wollert has no cemetery of its own. The nearest large grounds are run by the Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust: Northern Memorial Park at 56 Box Forest Road, Glenroy, and Fawkner Memorial Park at 1187 Sydney Road, Fawkner, which opened in 1906, covers 113 hectares and offers burial, cremation and mausoleum chapels. Tributes for a service are ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address.
The Whittlesea Show, at the showgrounds on McPhees Road in Whittlesea, runs on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2026. Valentine's Day on 14 February falls in high summer, so plan a morning delivery to a workplace. Anzac Day on 25 April is marked with rosemary and wreaths rather than bouquets. Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027, with flowers delivered on Saturday 8 May and a 10am cut-off, and Father's Day is 5 September 2027.
Melbourne's northern plains are drier than the bayside suburbs; Melbourne Airport, the nearest station, records 515 mm of rain a year, January highs averaging 27 degrees and July highs of 13. Spring (September to November) is peony, dahlia, snapdragon and rose time; summer is for alstroemeria, gerberas, carnations and orchids that outlast a hot northerly day; autumn brings chrysanthemums, tulips and proteas; winter is stock, daffodils, hyacinths and native leucadendron. Lavender and rosemary thrive in this climate and make reliable fillers all year.
Bouquets start at AUD 75. The delivery fee is added at checkout, and the card with your message costs nothing extra.
