Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersA Macedon Ranges florist delivers to Gisborne, New Gisborne, Macedon and Riddells Creek Monday to Saturday. Same-day delivery when you order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Melbourne time.
Gisborne is the largest town in the Macedon Ranges Shire, 54 km north-west of Melbourne and 443 metres above sea level, high enough that the air is noticeably cooler than the city on any summer evening. The town was laid out in 1851 and named after Henry Fyshe Gisborne, the Commissioner of Crown Lands who set up a Border Police outpost here in 1840, and it has grown from a coaching stop into a town of 14,432 people (2021 census) with tree-lined streets, a theatre, galleries and a monthly farmers' market. Flowers sent here are made up by a florist who knows the district, not trucked out from a Melbourne warehouse.
A florist covering Gisborne also delivers to New Gisborne and the station end of town, to Gisborne South and Bullengarook, and along the ranges to Macedon, Mount Macedon and Riddells Creek. Sunbury, 20 minutes down the line, is normally handled from its own side. Many addresses out here are acreage or lifestyle blocks with long driveways and a gate, so give the property name if there is one and a mobile number the driver can ring if the house is not obvious from the road. Mount Macedon's hillside gardens are a special case: tell us whether to leave the flowers at the house or in a shed if nobody is home, because the next delivery pass may not be until the following day.
Order before 2pm on a weekday or before 10am on a Saturday, Victorian time, and a local florist delivers the same day, Monday to Saturday. There is no Sunday delivery, so flowers for a Sunday lunch are delivered on the Saturday. Victoria changes its clocks in October and April, which matters if you are ordering from interstate. From Brisbane or Cairns the 2pm cut-off is 2pm your time in winter but only 1pm in summer; from Perth it is noon in winter and 11am in summer; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm all year. Anything later goes out the next working day, or on a date you pick in advance.
Gisborne has no inpatient hospital. Macedon Ranges Health at 5 Neal Street, Gisborne, is a community health centre, so day patients there are usually home by the time flowers would arrive; send to the house instead. The nearest hospital beds are at Kyneton Health, 7-25 Caroline Chisholm Drive, Kyneton 3444, about 30 km up the Calder, and most serious cases go to Melbourne's hospitals, each of which has its own page with us. Wherever the patient is, ring the ward first; intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and give the patient's full name and the ward.
Gisborne Cemetery is on Aitken Street, Gisborne 3437, and is now managed by the Geelong Cemeteries Trust. There is no crematorium in the town, so cremation services are usually held in Melbourne's northern or western suburbs or at a funeral director's chapel. Wreaths, casket sprays and sheaves for a service are best ordered two or three days ahead; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A simple bouquet to the home, sent the week after the funeral when the visitors have gone, is often the one that is remembered.
This is cool-climate flower country. Rain averages about 748 mm a year and winter nights at 443 metres are cold, which suits bulbs and peonies: Spring Hill, a short drive north, opens a five-acre pick-your-own peony paddock each November (5 November to 5 December 2026). In Victoria dahlias flower from February to May, so a late-summer or Mother's Day bouquet from a Gisborne florist is often built on dahlias and chrysanthemums. Winter brings tulips, ranunculus, daffodils and roses from the growers; spring is sweet pea, peony and delphinium time. The 150-odd oaks on Honour Avenue in Mount Macedon turn between March and May, and florists lean into that palette with rust, copper and burgundy stems while it lasts.
November is the busy month in the ranges: Open Studios Macedon on 7 and 8 November 2026, the Budburst wine festival across 15 venues on 14 and 15 November 2026, its 35th year, and the 164th Kyneton Agricultural Show on 20 and 21 November 2026. If you want a bouquet delivered on one of those weekends, order a day or two early. Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027; because there is no Sunday delivery, flowers go out on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off. Father's Day is Sunday 5 September 2027, Valentine's Day is 14 February, and on Anzac Day, 25 April, the dawn services at the Gisborne and Macedon memorials call for rosemary and wreaths rather than bouquets.
Bouquets start at AUD 75. The delivery fee for the Gisborne address is shown and added at checkout, and your card message is included at no charge.
