Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersHand-tied in the Latrobe Valley and delivered Monday to Saturday to Morwell, Traralgon, Moe and Churchill. Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Victorian time, for same-day delivery.
Morwell is the administrative heart of Latrobe City and, for anyone who cares about flowers, the home of the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden: more than two hectares and 3,500 roses on the corner of Commercial Road and Maryvale Crescent, holder of the World Federation of Rose Societies' Award of Garden Excellence since 2009. The town of 14,389 people sits 152 km east of Melbourne in a valley that has powered Victoria for a century, even after the Hazelwood station closed in 2017. Send a bouquet here and a Latrobe Valley florist makes it up by hand and delivers it the same day.
From Morwell the delivery run reaches Traralgon, 13 km east and the valley's biggest town with nearly 27,000 people, Moe and Newborough to the west, Churchill to the south, and Yallourn North, Hazelwood North, Yinnar, Glengarry and Tyers in between. Town addresses are straightforward. For a farm or a bush block, give the property name and a mobile number, because the driver will ring from the gate rather than guess. Warragul and Drouin, further west, are delivered from West Gippsland and have their own page.
The cut-off is 2pm on weekdays and 10am on Saturdays, Victorian time; orders placed before then are delivered that day, Monday to Saturday, and there is no Sunday delivery. Victoria is on daylight saving from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, so a sender in Brisbane should order by 1pm Queensland time in summer. Orders after the cut-off go out the next working day or on the date you choose.
Latrobe Regional Health, the valley's main public hospital, is at 10 Village Avenue, Traralgon, a short drive from Morwell. Maryvale Private Hospital is at 286 Maryvale Road, Morwell. Ring the ward before you order: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers. Give the patient's full name and the ward, and if the patient is likely to go home within a day or two, send to the house instead.
The International Rose Garden Festival Morwell, held since 2018, returns to the Centenary Rose Garden on 6 and 7 November 2026, timed for peak bloom, with free entry. It is the one weekend when a Morwell florist's buckets are at their fullest and busiest, so order a day or two ahead. Valentine's Day on 14 February comes in late summer. Anzac Day on 25 April is marked with rosemary and a wreath, not a bouquet. Mother's Day, Sunday 9 May 2027, is delivered on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off, and Father's Day is 5 September 2027.
The Latrobe Valley has an oceanic climate, with nights about two degrees cooler than Melbourne, February days between 12 and 26 degrees, July between 4 and 13, around 800 mm of rain and the odd frost. Flowers last well here. Dahlias bloom in Victoria from February to May and carry the Mother's Day trade, roses run from November into autumn, peonies appear for a few weeks in November, and winter is for poppies, tulips, ranunculus, proteas and leucadendron. In the rose town, a dozen local roses in season is hard to beat.
Hazelwood Cemetery on Brodribb Road, Hazelwood, is Morwell's historic burial ground, run by the Hazelwood Cemetery Trust. The crematorium for the valley is Gippsland Memorial Park on Tyers Road, Traralgon. Casket sprays, wreaths and sheaves are ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel. Delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address, or send to the house afterwards.
Bouquets start at AUD 75, roses by the dozen and larger arrangements cost more, the delivery fee is added at checkout and the card is free.
