Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersDelivered by a Gippsland florist Monday to Saturday to Warragul, Drouin and the dairy country between. Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Victorian time, for same-day delivery.
Warragul grew up around a railway station that opened in 1878 and is now the main town of West Gippsland, 102 km south-east of Melbourne, 143 metres up between the Strzelecki Ranges and the Baw Baw plateau. Just under 20,000 people live in the town itself and close to 43,000 once Drouin, 7 km west, is counted. This is dairy country with a cool, wet climate, about 1,020 mm of rain a year, which happens to be very good news for cut flowers: a bouquet that would wilt in a Melbourne heatwave keeps for days in a Warragul kitchen.
Warragul itself, Drouin and Drouin West, Lardner, Trafalgar and the farms in between are all covered by a florist working out of the district. Drouin has been adding streets quickly since 2010, with hundreds of blocks sold in the estates on its edges, so for a new address add the recipient's mobile number in case the driver needs directions. For a farm, give the property name and tell us whether to leave the flowers at the house or the dairy if nobody answers. Moe, Morwell and Traralgon further east are served from the Latrobe Valley rather than Warragul, and have their own page.
Order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Victorian time, and the bouquet is delivered that day, Monday to Saturday. There is no Sunday delivery. Rural addresses are delivered later in the run than the town, so a morning order gives the best chance of an afternoon arrival on a farm. Later orders go out the next working day, or on a date you choose.
West Gippsland Hospital is at 41 Landsborough Street, Warragul. Ring the ward before ordering: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and the maternity unit prefers a small arrangement. Give the patient's full name and the ward. Patients transferred for more serious care usually go to Latrobe Regional Health at 10 Village Avenue, Traralgon, where the same advice applies.
The Warragul Show at Logan Park runs 5 to 7 March 2027, its 142nd year. Farm World fills the 40-hectare Lardner Park site for three days in late March, drawing more than 36,000 paying visitors, and Drouin's Ficifolia Festival, held every February since 1989, celebrates the red flowering gums that line the way into town with a parade to Civic Park and fireworks. Valentine's Day on 14 February sits in the same stretch of late summer. Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027, delivered on the Saturday with a 10am cut-off; Anzac Day on 25 April is a day for rosemary and wreaths rather than bouquets; Father's Day is 5 September 2027.
West Gippsland's oceanic climate, with mean maximums around 19 degrees and minimums near 8, suits flowers that struggle further north. Dahlias flower in Victoria from February to May, so the Mother's Day bouquets here are often dahlias and chrysanthemums. Roses run from late spring into autumn, peonies have a few weeks in November, and winter brings poppies, tulips, ranunculus, proteas and leucadendron. Ask for seasonal stems and the florist chooses what came in freshest that morning.
The Warragul Cemetery Trust runs the old cemetery at the corner of Victoria and Sutton Streets and the newer Gulwarra Heights Memorial Park at 378 Burke Street, Warragul, which has a chapel. Drouin Cemetery is at 160 Longwarry Drouin Road, Drouin. The nearest crematorium is Gippsland Memorial Park on Tyers Road, Traralgon. Service tributes are ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address.
Bouquets start at AUD 75. The delivery fee is added at checkout and the card is included.
Did you know? Did you know? Warragul takes its name from an Aboriginal word for wild dog, and the town only exists because the Gippsland railway station opened there in 1878.
