Order flowersTropical and classic bouquets made up by a Cairns florist and delivered to Redlynch Monday to Saturday. Order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Queensland time, for same-day delivery.
Redlynch lies eleven kilometres north-west of the Cairns CBD along the valley cut by Freshwater Creek, with the Kuranda Scenic Railway rattling through on its way up the range and the rainforest of Barron Gorge National Park rising to 500 metres on either side. About 10,500 people live here, most of them west of Redlynch Intake Road, while the flats down to the creek are still under sugarcane. It is a suburb of families, acreage blocks and two large schools, served by a florist driving out from Cairns, so a few details on the order help.
Delivery covers the whole valley: the estates off Redlynch Intake Road, the older streets near Redlynch Central Shopping Centre and the station, and the neighbouring suburbs of Freshwater, Brinsmead, Kamerunga, Stratford and Kanimbla on the way back into town. Further up the valley the blocks get bigger and the driveways longer. For any acreage address, put the gate colour or lot number and a mobile phone number on the order so the driver can ring from the road rather than leave flowers in the heat. The Northern Beaches up to Palm Cove, 25 kilometres north of the city, are served from Cairns as well, usually on a separate run.
Order before 2pm on a weekday or before 10am on a Saturday, Cairns time, and the bouquet is delivered that day; there is no Sunday delivery. Queensland does not use daylight saving, so between the first Sunday in October and the first Sunday in April Redlynch is an hour behind Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart. A parent in Melbourne ordering at 2.30pm in December is still in time, because it is only 1.30pm in Redlynch; the real deadline is 3pm southern time in summer. Later orders go out the next working day or on a date you choose.
Redlynch has no hospital of its own. Patients from the valley are at Cairns Hospital, the public hospital at 165-171 The Esplanade, Cairns North, or at Cairns Private Hospital, 1 Upward Street, Parramatta Park, both roughly ten kilometres down the valley. Ring the ward before you order: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and maternity usually prefers a small arrangement in a vase. Write the patient's full name and the ward on the order, and if discharge is near, send the flowers home to Redlynch a day later instead.
Cairns has a tropical monsoon climate: a wet season from November to May with almost two metres of rain a year, cyclone risk through the same months, and a dry season from June to October when the humidity drops and visitors arrive. Average maximums only move between 26 degrees in July and 32 in January, so heat is a factor all year. Valentine's Day on 14 February sits in the middle of the wet; roses survive the day if they are delivered to an air-conditioned office or straight into a vase at home, but heliconias and orchids are the local alternative that shrugs off the humidity. Mother's Day is 9 May 2027, at the tail of the wet; flowers are delivered on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off, since nothing goes out on Sunday. The Cairns Festival runs from 28 August to 6 September 2026 with the Grand Parade on 29 August and Carnival on Collins closing it on Father's Day, 6 September 2026; in 2027 Father's Day is 5 September. On Anzac Day, 25 April, people wear rosemary and lay wreaths at the dawn service rather than send bouquets.
Far North Queensland grows the tropical cut flowers the rest of the country flies in: heliconias, gingers, dendrobium orchids and anthuriums thrive in exactly the warm, humid conditions that finish a bunch of tulips in a day. Frangipani, hibiscus and bougainvillea flower in Redlynch gardens most of the year. Roses, lilies, chrysanthemums and natives such as protea and kangaroo paw are still available year-round through the Cairns markets, and they last best in the dry season from June to October. For a bouquet that looks like Cairns, ask for a tropical mix.
Cairns Regional Council runs Martyn Street Cemetery, opened in 1916, on the corner of Martyn and Anderson Streets in Manunda, and Forest View Cemetery at 65-77 Foster Road, Mount Sheridan, where the Cairns Crematorium sits next door at 79-85 Foster Road. Service tributes should be ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A bouquet to the house in the weeks that follow is often the kinder timing.
Bouquets from the Cairns florist start at AUD 75, tropical arrangements included. The delivery fee for Redlynch is added at checkout and a card with your message comes with every order.
