Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersA Gold Coast florist hand-ties your bouquet and delivers it Monday to Saturday, from the towers of Surfers Paradise to the hinterland. Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Queensland time, for same-day delivery.
The Gold Coast is the largest Australian city that is not a capital, about 691,000 people (2025) strung along the coast 66 kilometres south-east of Brisbane, from the New South Wales border at Coolangatta to the canal estates of Hope Island in the north. It has more than 260 kilometres of residential canals, a skyline of apartment towers and, behind them, a green hinterland rising to Tamborine Mountain. Flowers here go to an unusual range of addresses: a high floor in Surfers Paradise, a canal house in Broadbeach, a bed at Gold Coast University Hospital or an acreage at Mudgeeraba. A local florist knows the difference between them, and that is who makes and delivers your order when you buy through us.
Delivery covers the coastal strip from Coolangatta, Tugun, Currumbin and Palm Beach through Burleigh Heads, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and Main Beach to Southport, the city's business district on the Broadwater, and inland through Benowa, Merrimac, Nerang and Robina to Mudgeeraba. To the north the run reaches Helensvale and Hope Island, and florists go up to Tamborine Mountain, though a hinterland address is usually delivered later in the day. The practical points are about access. Surfers Paradise had 55,909 residents at the 2021 census, most of them in towers, so give the unit number and a mobile number the driver can call from the intercom or the concierge desk. Sanctuary Cove at Hope Island is a gated community: the gatehouse needs the resident's name and a phone number before it lets a courier through. For students at Bond University in Robina or Griffith University in Southport, give a college or street address rather than the campus name.
Same-day delivery runs Monday to Saturday. Order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Queensland time, and the bouquet goes out that day; there is no Sunday delivery, so a Sunday occasion is best covered on the Saturday. Queensland does not change its clocks. From October to April New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania are an hour ahead, which gives senders there until 3pm their time on a weekday and 11am on a Saturday; in winter the cut-off is 2pm and 10am everywhere on the east coast. The catch is on the border: Coolangatta is in Queensland, Tweed Heads across the street is in New South Wales, and a Tweed Heads address runs on New South Wales time, an hour earlier by the Queensland clock in summer. From Perth the Gold Coast cut-off is noon all year; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm in winter and 2.30pm in summer.
Gold Coast University Hospital, an 800-bed teaching hospital opened in 2013 next to the Griffith campus, is at 1 Hospital Boulevard, Southport. Robina Hospital is at 2 Bayberry Lane, Robina, and Pindara Private Hospital is on Allchurch Avenue in Benowa; John Flynn Private is at Tugun in the south. Ring the ward first: intensive care and some wards accept no fresh flowers, and a maternity ward may prefer a small arrangement. Give the patient's full name and the ward, and if the patient is about to be discharged, the family home is the safer address.
The Gold Coast has a humid subtropical climate with an average maximum of 28.9 degrees in summer and 21.3 in winter, and 1,253 millimetres of rain a year, most of it in the summer thunderstorm season. That makes winter, dry and mild, the best time of year for roses, proteas, leucadendron and tulips, and summer the season for stems that shrug off humidity: orchids, anthurium, gerberas, carnations and gladioli, with frangipani and hibiscus flowering in the gardens for months. In spring florists have peonies, dahlias, ranunculus, poppies and lilies. For a summer delivery, pick an address where someone can get the flowers into water, and for an apartment with a west-facing balcony, ask the recipient to keep them inside.
Valentine's Day, 14 February, is in the wet season, so order roses for a morning or workplace delivery before the afternoon storms. Anzac Day, 25 April, is marked with rosemary and wreaths at the dawn services, not bouquets. Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May, 9 May 2027; flowers go out on Saturday 8 May and the cut-off is 10am Queensland time. Blues on Broadbeach fills the Broadbeach precinct for four days each May. The Gold Coast Marathon is run on the first Sunday of July, Father's Day is the first Sunday in September (5 September 2027), and in late October the Gold Coast 500 turns the streets of Surfers Paradise into a race circuit (23 to 25 October 2026), so a delivery to Surfers that weekend should be booked for the morning or another day. Schoolies brings about 40,000 school leavers to Surfers Paradise in late November and early December, when apartment-building deliveries slow down.
Allambe Memorial Park, at 129 Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Nerang, has two chapels seating up to 130 with livestreaming, and Southport General Cemetery, gazetted in 1880 and run by the City of Gold Coast, is on Queen Street, Southport. Service tributes (wreath, casket spray, sheaf) are arranged through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel two or three days ahead. Delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address; a sympathy bouquet to the house is just as welcome a week or a month later.
Hand-tied bouquets start from about AUD 75, with roses by the dozen, native bunches and larger arrangements priced higher. The delivery fee is added at checkout and a card message is included.
Did you know? Did you know? The Gold Coast has more than 260 kilometres of residential canals, and Surfers Paradise grew from 23,689 residents in 2016 to 55,909 in 2021, most of them in apartment towers.
