Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersArranged by a florist in Maryborough and delivered Monday to Saturday across the city, Tinana and Granville. For same-day delivery, order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Queensland time.
Maryborough is the old river port of the Fraser Coast, 255 km north of Brisbane on the Mary River, with heritage streets of timber and brick from the days when it shipped sugar and timber and landed migrants. Around 15,300 people live in the suburb itself and 27,500 in the wider urban area (2021 census), and the city is 30 km south of Hervey Bay, its larger neighbour on the coast. There is a second Maryborough in the Victorian goldfields and the two are regularly mixed up, so check the postcode: 4650 is this one, the city with the Mary Poppins statue at 331 Kent Street and the Lamington Bridge over to Tinana. A bouquet ordered through us is made up by a Maryborough florist and delivered by hand the same day, provided the order beats the cut-off.
The whole city is covered: the heritage centre and Maryborough West on the western side, Granville across the river to the east, and Tinana, 4 km south-west over the Lamington Bridge and now effectively a suburb with close to 6,000 residents. Aldershot, Bidwill, St Helens, Island Plantation, Walkers Point and Oakhurst on the fringes are reached too, usually later in the day. For a rural block give the lot or property name and a mobile number, and for a retirement village or aged-care home add the resident's unit or room, because reception may close early. Hervey Bay, 30 km north-north-east, has its own page and its own florists.
Same-day delivery is available Monday to Saturday when the order is placed before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Maryborough time. Queensland stays on standard time all year, so from October to April the city runs an hour behind New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania. That works in the sender's favour: a 2pm Maryborough cut-off reads as 3pm on a clock in Sydney or Melbourne during daylight saving, and the clocks agree the rest of the year. From Perth the deadline is noon all year; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm in winter and 2.30pm in summer. Sunday is not a delivery day, so a Sunday birthday is delivered on the Saturday.
Maryborough Hospital is on Walker Street, Maryborough, near the cemetery end of the street. Ring the ward before ordering, because intensive care and some other wards do not allow fresh flowers, and give us the patient's full name and ward so the bouquet goes straight up rather than waiting at the front desk. Many Fraser Coast patients are treated at Hervey Bay Hospital instead, 30 km away, so confirm which hospital the person is in before you order; if they are about to go home, the home address is the safer choice.
The Mary Poppins Festival, celebrating author P. L. Travers who was born above the Australian Joint Stock Bank on Kent Street in 1899, fills the Portside precinct and Queens Park on Sunday 5 July 2026. Looking further ahead, Maryborough will host the archery events of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. On the flower calendar, Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027, delivered on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off; Father's Day is Sunday 5 September 2027; Valentine's Day on 14 February falls in the wettest, stickiest part of the year, when roses need to reach a vase quickly. On Anzac Day, 25 April, local custom is rosemary on the lapel and a wreath at the memorial rather than a bouquet.
Maryborough is humid subtropical, with an average maximum of about 27 degrees, a minimum near 15 and around 1,150 mm of rain a year, most of it in January and February. Summer heat and humidity are hard on soft flowers, so from December to February a florist here leans on lilies, gerberas, alstroemeria, tropical foliage and natives that shrug off a storm. Autumn brings chrysanthemums and the return of tulips; winter, dry and mild, is the kindest season for cut flowers and the time for proteas, leucadendron, orchids, carnations and iris. Spring means ranunculus, roses in quantity and a short run of peonies in November. Ask for a seasonal bouquet and the florist chooses from what arrived that morning.
Maryborough Cemetery on Walker Street dates from 1873 and has a monumental section, a columbarium and a children's memorial garden; alongside it the Maryborough Garden of Rest is the lawn cemetery where most burials now take place, and the council's cemetery office is on the same site. There is no crematorium in Maryborough itself. A casket spray, wreath or sheaf should be ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel. Nobody can guarantee delivery to the service itself, so give the family's home as a second address; a sympathy bouquet can also be sent to the house in the quieter weeks that follow.
Bouquets start at AUD 75. Larger arrangements, roses by the dozen and native bunches cost more, the delivery fee is added at checkout and a card with your message comes with the flowers.
