Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersHand-tied by a florist in Toowoomba and delivered Monday to Saturday. Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Queensland time, for same-day delivery.
Toowoomba takes flowers seriously. This is the city that fills Queens Park with tulips and poppies every September, calls itself the Garden City and sits 691 metres up on the Great Dividing Range, where the cool nights give roses and bulbs a longer life than they get in Brisbane. Whether the bouquet is for a birthday in Rangeville, a new baby at St Vincent's Private or a colleague at UniSQ, a florist in Toowoomba makes it up and delivers it by hand. Order here and the local florist does the rest.
Delivery covers the whole city: Toowoomba City and East Toowoomba around the CBD, the older inner suburbs of Newtown, North Toowoomba, South Toowoomba, Harristown and Harlaxton, the ridge suburbs of Rangeville, Mount Lofty, Prince Henry Heights and Middle Ridge, and the growing south and west around Kearneys Spring, Darling Heights, Glenvale, Drayton, Wilsonton, Rockville, Cranley and Cotswold Hills. Highfields to the north, Westbrook and Wellcamp to the west and Hodgson Vale and Top Camp to the south are covered as well, though a rural property may be delivered later in the run. For acreage, give the property name and a mobile number the driver can ring from the gate.
Same-day delivery is available Monday to Saturday. Order before 2pm on a weekday or before 10am on a Saturday, Toowoomba time, and the bouquet goes out the same day. There is no Sunday delivery, so a Sunday birthday is best delivered on the Saturday. One thing catches people sending from Sydney, Melbourne or Hobart: Queensland does not change its clocks. From October to April the southern states are an hour ahead, so the 2pm Toowoomba cut-off is 3pm in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart; the rest of the year the clocks match. From Perth, two hours behind Queensland all year, the deadline is noon. Later orders go out the next working day, or on any date you choose.
Three hospitals take most of the get-well bouquets in town. Toowoomba Hospital, the public hospital, is on Pechey Street in South Toowoomba. St Vincent's Private Hospital Toowoomba is at 22-36 Scott Street, East Toowoomba, and St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital is at 280 North Street, Rockville. Ring the ward before you order: intensive care and some surgical wards take no fresh flowers, and maternity units often prefer a small arrangement that fits a bedside locker. Give the patient's full name and the ward; if discharge is close, the family home is the safer address.
The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers runs each September, in 2026 from Thursday 18 September to Sunday 5 October, its 77th year, with the floral parade through the city to Queens Park on the opening Saturday. Local florists are at their busiest that fortnight, so order a few days ahead if the bouquet is for a carnival weekend. Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May (9 May 2027), the biggest flower day of the year; it falls on a Sunday, so flowers are delivered on the Saturday and the cut-off is 10am. Father's Day is the first Sunday in September (5 September 2027), just before carnival. Valentine's Day, 14 February, lands in high summer here, so roses should be delivered to a workplace or home where someone can get them into water quickly. On Anzac Day, 25 April, the tradition is a sprig of rosemary on the lapel and a wreath at the dawn service rather than a bouquet. Christmas in Toowoomba is warm and often stormy; lilies, natives and foliage last the week better than soft blooms.
Toowoomba has a humid subtropical climate with a twist: summers rarely pass 33 degrees and winter nights can touch zero, with frost on the ridge. That shapes what is in the buckets. Spring (September to November) is bulbs, ranunculus, sweet pea, stock, poppies and the first roses, with the carnival gardens as proof. Summer (December to February) brings lilies, gerberas, sunflowers, carnations and peonies for a few short weeks in November and December. Autumn (March to May) is dahlia and chrysanthemum season, which is why Mother's Day bouquets are so often built around them. Winter (June to August) is the time for natives: proteas, banksia, kangaroo paw and leucadendron, plus poppies and iris. Ask for seasonal stems and the florist picks what is freshest that morning.
Most Toowoomba funerals are held at the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery on Anzac Avenue in Harristown, a heritage-listed cemetery surveyed in 1850 with more than 45,000 burials, or at the Toowoomba Garden of Remembrance crematorium at 1001 Ruthven Street, Kearneys Spring. Service tributes (wreath, casket spray, sheaf) are arranged through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel two to three days ahead; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A sympathy bouquet to the home can be sent the day you hear the news or weeks later, when the house has gone quiet.
Hand-tied bouquets start at around AUD 75; larger arrangements, roses by the dozen and native bunches cost more. The delivery fee is added at checkout. A card message is included.
