Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersA Sunshine Coast florist delivers Monday to Saturday to Little Mountain, Caloundra West, Aroona, Currimundi and the Aura suburbs. Place the order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Queensland time, and it goes out the same day.
Little Mountain is a family suburb of 11,068 people (2021 census) on the western edge of Caloundra, 5.5 km from the Caloundra town centre and about 87 km north of Brisbane, with Caloundra Road running through it from the Bruce Highway towards the beach. Its 7.6 square kilometres are almost entirely houses, and its neighbours are a mix of established suburbs, Aroona, Currimundi and Caloundra West, and the new Aura city taking shape at Baringa, whose Gubbi Gubbi name means "summit" or "little mountain".
Little Mountain, Caloundra West, Aroona, Currimundi, Meridan Plains and Baringa are delivered from Caloundra, along with the beach suburbs of Golden Beach, Pelican Waters, Kings Beach, Moffat Beach and Dicky Beach. Baringa and the rest of the Aura development, where the first homes were occupied in 2017 and Stockland plans a community of 50,000 people over thirty years, has streets newer than many maps, so add the recipient's mobile number for any address there. If the address is a retirement village or a gated community, give the village name and the villa or unit number, and say whether reception may hold the flowers if the resident is out.
Order before 2pm Monday to Friday or before 10am on Saturday, Queensland time, for same-day delivery; Sundays are skipped. Queensland stays on standard time all year, so from October to April anyone ordering from Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra or Hobart has until 3pm on a weekday and 11am on Saturday by their own clock. From Adelaide the cut-off is 2.30pm in summer and 1.30pm in winter; from Perth it is noon all year. An order placed after the cut-off is delivered on the next working day, or on a future date if you prefer.
Caloundra Health Service at 2a West Terrace, Caloundra, has a minor injury and illness clinic open 8am to 10pm, palliative care, renal and outpatient services, but no emergency department; acute patients from Little Mountain go to Sunshine Coast University Hospital at 6 Doherty Street, Birtinya, opened in March 2017 and now 728 beds, with Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital beside it. Ring the ward before ordering: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and maternity prefers a compact arrangement. The order needs the patient's full name and the ward, plus the home address as a fallback if discharge is close.
The Sunshine Coast has two show holidays rather than one: the former Caloundra City area, which includes Little Mountain, takes its day for the Maleny Show (29 May in 2026), while the Maroochy side takes the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show at Nambour (12 June 2026), which held its 120th show that year and returns in June 2027. Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027, delivered Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off. Valentine's Day on 14 February falls in the humid late summer, so roses should go where they can be put in water quickly. Anzac Day on 25 April is marked with rosemary and wreaths rather than bouquets, and Father's Day is 5 September 2027. The Caloundra Music Festival, held at Kings Beach from 2007, is no longer on the calendar after the council stopped funding it in 2024, so the October long weekend is quieter than it used to be.
Caloundra's climate is subtropical, with mean maximums from 27.6 degrees in January to 19.3 in July and about 1,578 mm of rain a year, most of it in summer and early autumn. From December to March the florist leans on orchids, anthuriums, gerberas, gladioli and native stems that handle humidity; the dry, mild winter from June to August is the best time for ranunculus, tulips, chrysanthemums and iris. Proteas and leucadendron come in from March to May, and spring brings lisianthus, sweet pea and a short peony window in October and November. A seasonal bouquet lets the florist use the freshest stems of the morning.
Gregson and Weight's Caloundra funeral chapel is at 5 Gregson Place, Caloundra, with sister chapels at 159 Wises Road, Buderim, and 34 National Park Road, Nambour. Wreaths, casket sprays and sheaves are ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A sympathy bouquet to the home can follow in the weeks after the service, once the visitors have thinned out.
Prices start at AUD 75 for a bouquet; delivery is charged separately at checkout and the card comes at no extra cost.
Did you know? Did you know? Baringa, the Aura suburb next to Little Mountain, takes its name from a Gubbi Gubbi word meaning "summit" or "little mountain", so the new city and the older suburb share a name in two languages.
