Send flowers to Dubbo, the heart of the Orana

Dubbo is the biggest city in the Orana region of New South Wales, 392 km north-west of Sydney on the Macquarie River, with 43,516 residents (2021 census) spread over 183 square kilometres at the point where three highways meet. It was gazetted as a village in 1849, got its railway in 1881 and became a city in 1966. Most people looking for a Dubbo florist from Sydney or interstate want a bouquet delivered the same day to a home in Delroy Park, a ward at the Base Hospital or an office in the city centre, and that is what a local florist does for us.

The city centre around Macquarie and Talbragar Streets, East Dubbo around Orana Mall, West Dubbo and Delroy Park across the river, and South Dubbo along Tamworth Street are all on the daily run. The villages of Dubbo Regional Council are covered as well: Brocklehurst and Eumungerie to the north, Wongarbon, 18 km east on the Mitchell Highway and growing as a commuter village, Toongi and Rawsonville. Order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Dubbo time, and the bouquet goes out the same day, Monday to Saturday. Sunday deliveries do not exist here, so a Sunday birthday is sent on the Saturday. Dubbo keeps Sydney time, daylight saving included. From Brisbane the cut-off is 1pm from October to April and 2pm in winter, because Queensland does not change its clocks; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm all year, from Perth 11am in summer and noon in winter. Order after the deadline and the flowers travel on the next working day, or on any day you choose.

Flowers to Dubbo Base Hospital and Dubbo Private

Dubbo Health Service, still called Dubbo Base Hospital by most people, is on Myall Street, with a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care, maternity with a special care nursery, renal dialysis and the Western Cancer Centre on site. Dubbo Private Hospital is on Moran Drive. Ring the ward before you order: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and cancer wards often ask for none, so give the patient's full name and the ward and ask. With discharge close, choose the home address.

Cemeteries, chapels and sympathy flowers in Dubbo

Dubbo's cemeteries are the Western District Memorial Park lawn cemetery on Boothenba Road, the Dubbo New Cemetery on Dunedoo Road near Cobbora Road, and the Old Dubbo Cemetery on Myall Street at Cobborah Road in Manera Heights. Book service tributes two or three days before the funeral, through the director or a florist near the chapel; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A sympathy bouquet to the home can be sent the day you hear or weeks later.

Show weekend, Mother's Day and the other big dates

The Dubbo Show runs from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 May 2027 at the showground on Fitzroy Street, the same weekend as Mother's Day on Sunday 9 May. That makes it the busiest week of the year for Dubbo florists: there is no Sunday delivery, so Mother's Day flowers go out on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off, and ordering early in the week is wise. Father's Day is 5 September 2027. Valentine's Day on 14 February arrives in a Dubbo summer where January maximums average 33.6 degrees, so roses should be delivered where someone can get them into water. Anzac Day on 25 April is for rosemary and wreaths rather than bouquets.

Hot summers, frosty mornings: what is in season

Dubbo's climate is humid subtropical bordering on semi-arid: hot summers, about 585 mm of rain a year, and winter mornings with frost but, unlike Orange up the road, no snow. In summer the florist works with chrysanthemums, gerberas and dahlias that stand the heat; autumn brings dahlias, chrysanthemums and proteas, winter tulips, ranunculus and chrysanthemums, spring peonies, tulips, ranunculus and sunflowers. Roses are in the buckets all year. A seasonal bouquet lets the florist pick what arrived freshest that morning.
