Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersHand-tied in Coffs Harbour and delivered Monday to Saturday from Sawtell to Woolgoolga. Order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, New South Wales time, for same-day delivery.
Coffs Harbour sits almost exactly halfway between the two big cities, 529 kilometres north of Sydney and 390 kilometres south of Brisbane, on a stretch of coast where banana and blueberry farms run down towards the beaches and the Big Banana still stands beside the highway. Close to 79,000 people live here (2021 census), the Solitary Islands Marine Park lies just offshore, and humpback whales pass Muttonbird Island from May to November. It is a holiday town as much as a regional centre, and that shapes how flowers are delivered: a bouquet is as likely to go to a holiday apartment at Park Beach as to a house in Toormina. Order here and a florist in Coffs Harbour makes it up and delivers it by hand.
The run covers Coffs Harbour itself, the Jetty and Park Beach by the harbour, Korora and Sapphire Beach on the hills to the north, Boambee and Boambee East, Toormina and Sawtell, 8 kilometres south, with its fig-lined First Avenue. Up the coast, florists continue through Moonee Beach and Emerald Beach to Woolgoolga, 25 kilometres north, home to Australia's largest Sikh community and its two gurdwaras. Inland, Coramba, Karangi and Bucca are covered as well, though a farm address goes out later in the run, so give the property name, the lot number and a mobile number. For a holiday let at Park Beach or the Jetty, add the unit number and the name the booking is under; for a student at Southern Cross University, whose Coffs Harbour campus is shared with a TAFE and a senior high school, give a street address rather than the campus name.
Coffs Harbour Health Campus, the public referral hospital for the Mid North Coast, is at 345 Pacific Highway, Coffs Harbour, and Baringa Private Hospital is at 31 Mackays Road, a few minutes away. Ring the ward before you order: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and the florist needs the patient's full name and ward to get the bouquet to the bedside. If the patient is likely to go home within a day or two, send the flowers to the house instead. For a new baby, a small arrangement that fits on a locker travels better than a tall vase.
Coffs Harbour has a humid subtropical climate: hot, wet summers, short mild winters, an average maximum of 23.6 degrees, an average minimum of 14 and 1,699 millimetres of rain a year, more than twice what Sydney or Perth receives. In summer, from December to February, frangipani and hibiscus are in flower in every second garden, and florists turn to orchids, anthurium, gerberas, carnations and roses that stand up to humidity; ask for delivery to an address where someone is home, because a bouquet left in a stairwell in January wilts fast. Autumn is proteas, leucadendron and the first tulips, winter is mild enough for roses alongside tulips, daffodils and ranunculus, and spring brings peonies, dahlias, poppies and lilies. A mixed seasonal bunch is the best value in any month.
Valentine's Day, 14 February, lands in the wettest and stickiest part of the year, so order roses for a workplace or a morning delivery. Anzac Day, 25 April, calls for a sprig of rosemary and a wreath at the dawn service, not a bouquet. Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May, 9 May 2027; there is no Sunday delivery, so Mother's Day flowers go out on Saturday 8 May and the cut-off is 10am. Sawtell Chillifest fills First Avenue on Saturday 3 July 2027, and Father's Day is the first Sunday in September, 5 September 2027. Woolgoolga Curryfest, on Saturday 25 September 2027 at the Woolgoolga Beach Reserve, draws about 16,000 people and 180 stalls to a town of 6,000, so a Woolgoolga delivery that day is best booked for the morning. Over the Christmas and January holidays the coast fills with visitors, and florists are at their busiest.
Coffs Harbour Lawn Cemetery, opened in 1986 and run by the council, is at 956 Coramba Road, Karangi, 10 kilometres west of town, and the Coffs Harbour Crematorium and Memorial Gardens is next door at 956A Coramba Road. The council also looks after the older monumental cemetery in Coffs Harbour and the lawn and monumental cemeteries at Woolgoolga. Wreaths, casket sprays and sheaves for the service are arranged two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel. Delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A sympathy bouquet to the house can go the day you hear or weeks later, when the visitors have gone.
New South Wales uses daylight saving and Queensland does not. From April to October Coffs Harbour and Brisbane share the same time, but from October to April Coffs is an hour ahead, so a Gold Coast or Brisbane sender has until 1pm Queensland time on a weekday and 9am on a Saturday. From Perth the weekday cut-off is noon in winter and 11am in summer; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm all year. Same-day delivery runs Monday to Saturday, with no Sunday delivery. Anything ordered after the cut-off goes out the next working day, or on the date you choose.
Hand-tied bouquets start from about AUD 75; roses by the dozen, native bunches and larger arrangements cost more. The delivery fee is added at checkout and a card message is included.
Did you know? Did you know? Woolgoolga, 25 kilometres north of Coffs Harbour, has Australia's largest Sikh community, and its Curryfest draws around 16,000 visitors every September.
