Frankston Hospital changed its name in 2026. With the opening of its new clinical services tower and a teaching partnership with Monash University, the public hospital at 2 Hastings Road, Frankston VIC 3199, became Peninsula University Hospital. Locals still call it Frankston Hospital, florists still know exactly where it is, and an order addressed either way reaches the same front desk. It remains the main hospital for the Mornington Peninsula, run by Peninsula Health, with an emergency department, intensive care, maternity, cancer and cardiac services, paediatrics, mental health and rehabilitation on one campus.

The new tower changed the entrances

Construction continues around the site, and the way in is not what it was. Wards in the new tower, the intensive care unit and Westernport Ward are reached through the new Main Entrance, while the old main entrance on the east side is now called the East Entrance. Our florists deliver regularly and know the current layout, but it helps if you name the ward exactly as the patient or family gave it to you. Hastings Road itself is a busy approach from the Nepean Highway, and the hospital's own car parks are the only reliable parking nearby.

Visiting hours and when the bouquet arrives

Peninsula Health lists visiting hours at Peninsula University Hospital as 8am to 8pm. Florists deliver during business hours inside that window, usually handing the bouquet to the ward clerk rather than walking to the bed. If you want to be there when it arrives, order for a weekday morning and ask the florist to call you when it has been delivered. Maternity rooms in the new tower are compact, so a posy or a small arrangement in its own container is a better fit than a long-stemmed bunch.

Where flowers are not accepted

Peninsula Health does not publish a hospital-wide flower rule, so the decision sits with each ward. As a general guide that holds at most Australian hospitals, intensive care and coronary care refuse flowers and plants, oncology and haematology often refuse them because of pollen and bacteria in standing water, and some surgical wards ask for nothing scented. Mental health units may not allow glass vases. Ring the ward via the main switchboard before you order and ask whether flowers are welcome and whether a delivery can be left at the desk; if the patient is due home within a day or two, send to the house instead.

Frankston's other hospitals

Two other sites generate confusion. St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital is a private rehabilitation hospital at 255 to 265 Cranbourne Road, Frankston VIC 3199, a few minutes away; patients there stay longer and rehabilitation wards are usually relaxed about flowers. The Frankston Public Surgical Centre handles planned surgery, and most of its patients go home the same day, so flowers belong at the home address, not the centre. Tell us which building the patient is in and the florist goes to the right door.

Ordering for same-day delivery in Frankston

Order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Melbourne time, and a Frankston florist can deliver the same day, Monday to Saturday; to a hospital, same day is never guaranteed because the ward controls when the bouquet is accepted. Give the patient's full name, the ward and the hospital name, and choose a low-scent, low-pollen bouquet: gerberas, alstroemeria, tulips or roses rather than lilies. Hand-tied bouquets start at around AUD 75; the delivery fee is added at checkout.

Did you know? Opened on 30 November 1941 as Frankston Community Hospital, the hospital was renamed Peninsula University Hospital in 2026 when its new clinical services tower opened.

Frequently asked questions about flowers to Peninsula University Hospital

Can I still send flowers to "Frankston Hospital" after the name change?

Yes. Peninsula University Hospital is the same hospital at 2 Hastings Road, Frankston VIC 3199, and florists deliver there daily. Use either name on the order, but always include the ward and the patient's full name, and ring the ward first to make sure flowers are accepted in that unit.

Which wards at Peninsula University Hospital do not take flowers?

The hospital leaves it to each ward, so there is no published list. Expect a no from intensive care, coronary care and most cancer and blood-disorder units, and possibly from mental health units for glass vases. Maternity and general surgical wards normally accept a small arrangement. One call to the ward confirms it.

What suits a patient room in the new tower?

A compact arrangement in a container that holds its own water, with little scent and little pollen. Bedside space is limited, staff rarely have spare vases, and other patients share the room. Gerberas, alstroemeria and tulips are safe choices; skip lilies and strongly perfumed roses.
